Finish of camp and the travels begin!

I know I have been very busy and slack with the blog writing but I think I maybe back on track so here is most of it just another week or so to write up and then I will be up to date…….

It’s now Wednesday afternoon and I have officially had enough! (But we’ll get to that later)

Yesterday was the infamous counsellor day, which for us really was no big deal, we were too tired to care! However Holl, who is in upper dorm this week, decided to get up at 1.30am and blow her whistle as loud as she could and bang and wake them up. Then 4 am rolls around and Verena and Kel come into the dorms and the 3 of them get saucepan lids and tins and smash them together, banding and clanging, get them up yell at them like drill sergeants to grab their cozzies and marched them down to the waterfront. Made them change in the boat house without lights, then as they were walking from the boatshed back to the water they threw buckets of water at them! Yelled at them to get in and swim in the lake then get out roll around in the sand get back in then out and in and out and in then marched them back to bed. All very funny apparently.

Meanwhile as I am in lower dorm I can hear anything that goes on in upper dorm so I was awake when all this was going on and I was having trouble going back to sleep as I was still so scared of the mice that are running around in this place (not to mention ‘Bobby’ our resident chipmunk, that runs through the place like he owes it!) So here I am lying there and I start to hear a noise which sounds exactly like a mouse trying to eat a lolly wrapper, the kids have candy in here all the time and just leave their half eaten candy lying around. I start hearing it more and more and sounds like its getting louder – the whole gang is out their (most likely being headed by ‘Bobby’) torturing me just outside my room ready to attack me any second! “Why the hell aren’t they dying a long slow death, previously that evening I had put out 3 of these big green rat repellent blocks that are meant to kill them if they eat it. At this point im too scared to get out of bed and turn the light on to try and find my ear plugs in case I see one. Instead I just pull the covers up and hold it tight over my ears to try and block their horrible taunts out. After about 5 minutes I was sweating to death and decided to take the bullet and get up and just as I sat up to get out of bed I realised …………. It had been raining and the noise the mice were making eating a lolly wrapper was not in fact a band of crazed mice trying to eat a lolly wrapper but instead the rain dripping of the roof and onto the porch roof which is just outside my window! Ohh thank god and with that I fell back asleep!

So up at 7.30am with pan lids and up to upper dorm to wake them up and we made the kids march and sing ‘left, left, left right, left. Then every time they went into the pavilion to eat they had to do the conga, we got served first at all the meals and we ordered the kids around making them get us stuff. Then when we blew a whistle they had to run around the outside of the cabin. We made them wear their undies and bra on the outside and drew mono brows and beards. Some of them wussed out and cried because they had a moustache. We didn’t really make them do anything to bad and they complained all day which was annoying. Then after dinner we were all going on a trip to a town near by called ‘Duxberry’ to have ice-cream. Lower dorm were being naughty and not listening to what we told especially one girl in particular who is a brat and a half so they weren’t allowed to go, which was a good punishment but they had just received mail that afternoon which was a huge box of candy and chocolate bars, so they weren’t to perturbed that they missed out they were just going to eat them selves sick with candy, aarrgghh these kids are killing me.

Last night after we got back from ice cream the kids told me that there was a mouse running around and it ran straight into my room! Great now it’s real and they are back! So out goes more rat bait for the little suckers. Reading in bed I had to kill a beetle crawling on my bed then up pops a huge 5cm long black ant slash hybrid scorpion thingy – geez can this get any worse? I have officially have had enough! So I decided to be proactive about the gang of crazed evil mice and I got ready for bed and put my eye mask on put my ipod in and put Wendy Matthews album “Lilly” on repeat and finally fell asleep round 1am until 5am – bliss that’s the longest stretch of sleep I’ve had in 7 weeks!

So today is Wednesday, trip day, its Boston Aquarium today but they only needed 3 counsellors “because the camp cant afford to take us all” which has been the case with all the trips and the camp not having enough money (despite the fact that a day camper for 6 weeks costs roughly $3000, and overnight camper for 6 weeks is $4000) So anyway all the more fun for us as Hol, Leigh and Nicky get the day off. So we got the kids ready and set them off, FOUB you will be pleased to know that they were catching the train into Boston. They had a few troubles as there was rail works and had to catch a big yellow bus between the stations but their journey back was trouble free. The girls said the trip was good but some how they didn’t get lunch packed for them??? But one of the nuns some how managed to have 2 sandwiches for lunch…. What the???

Once the kids were gone we headed for ‘Kingston Public Library’ for some much needed internet. We got there at 10am and 2 and a ½ hours on it and that was literally just booking things and trying to organise hotels and things, I didn’t even get to check Facebook. On the up side I now have accommodation booked for Toronto staying at the ‘Clarence Castle Hostel’ if any one is interested in looking it up. After I head to Canada Hol and Kel are doing a 3 day trip to Washington Philly and Niagara Falls and then I’m meeting up with Leigh who will already be in Canada and we are all heading back to NY to meet up with Nicky and her friend from Melbourne. So we booked the Marriot in down town Manhattan which is exciting. Thanks to kate for looking up those places for us it was good to see what else there was but we somehow managed to get it for the cheaper price at the Marriott.

From the library we headed to Plymouth and Mexican for lunch, had a quick look round and then headed to Wal-Mart for a few things. I wanted to get some ear buds but in this bloody place its big bigger and biggest. I only wanted a small pack but all I could get was a pack of 100, 200 or 500!! What am I going to do with the other 96 ear buds when I have finished at camp? Back to camp for a snooze. The kids have just arrived back and are again eating candy, candy, candy

We are going to have a spa night and do the girls hair and paint their nails and stuff so it should be fun!

Not looking forward to tomorrow though its campers day and they can do what ever they want to us 

Shout out to the Sussex crew love receiving the letters and updates go kids and all the awards! Rach you’re a star…

Its now Friday and the last of camp WHOOOOO HOOOOOO!!! Not that I’m excited or anything haha.

Back to yesterday campers day, seeing as though I’m a dorm mum I was exempt from being woken up by the girls in upper dorm because Suzanne didn’t want the little girls being woken up in the middle of the night. I had settled quite nicely into bed with actual ear plugs and my eye mask but then at 1.30am the bloody girls came in and woke me up grrrrr, looking for the other counsellors to wake up “Gemma, Gemma do you know where the other counsellors are?” Yeah you dummies try the counsellor cabin where the sleep der, I could of killed them, I could feel it in my waters that I was going to have a good (uninterrupted) nights sleep – apparently not.

At breakfast that morning each time we took a bite of our meal they made us run around the tables and then have another bite and another run, not so bad. Then once we had finished we had to line up while they used their super soakers on us and wet us all – still not too bad I just went and had a nice warm shower straight away. They also dressed us up in out fits, I was wrapped in bubble wrap and looked like the Michelin man! Great way to loose weight though, I was so sweaty it was a re-enactment of Cambodia “Sweat drips down my balls”. I had to wear that around all day. At lunch the blindfolded us but I could see straight down my nose and everything that was on my plate so that didn’t bother me too much. After lunch was rest hour and my periods off so they couldn’t do anything then and that was about all they did which really wasn’t bad at all.

After dinner we had to play the dreaded ‘Underground Rail Road’. Hopes of a severe thunderstorm and the game being called off were unfortunately dashed. So when it started to get dark we got ready in long pants, sweaters and loads of bug spray. We had 4 walkie talkies between 8 of us and I didn’t get one – eekkk! We trekked of into the school grounds and the deep dark woods in the pitch black, great my idea of the best game ever!

We then were all separated off along the track and were all alone in the woods, was so scared I felt like I wanted to dry wretch haha it was horrible. We were told the we would have to wait 10 mins and then the groups of kids would come through and we had to pretend to be southern bounty hunters and ask them what they were doing out in the woods and if they had seen any slaves, they of course were meant to be slaves and had to make up some story to us as to who they were and what they were up to. Anyway still waiting 20 mins later still no kids and all I could think about was the bears and animals out there. I could hear these barking noises off in the distance “oh was that a domestic?? Or maybe a wild dog??? or coyotes??? This game sucks big time. 30 mins later still no kids, what is going on. Off in the distance I can see these red lights “what is that” I wondered to myself. “looks like a UFO, ahhh ET has landed out in the woods and im all alone”. Then I could see white mist around the red lights “@#$% it really is a UFO, what the hell is going on here?” Squinting off into the distance I realised that the mist and smoke surrounding the UFO was actually a sprinkler system that was water the schools grounds and the red ET lights were just the tail lights of a car way off in the distance.

Right its now been 40 mins off standing here and being scared witless and hearing this constant ringing off bugs in my ears (mum I think for those 40 mins I know how you fell with your tinnitus). Finally I can hear the kids coming, thank god and after all that there was only 2 groups of kids that came through and then it was over. We practically ran back to camp because we were so scared whilst deciding that “under ground railroad” is the worst game invented!

Friday was the last day of camp for the day campers. In the first half of the morning I had to help pack up the beads and things in arts and craft, this literally took us 15 mins and then I just chatted to the nuns and with Hollie who had run into arts and craft after telling the kids that they were playing arts and craft and she was hiding in with us, needless to say they didn’t find her. We then took all the kids down and had a swim in the swamp for the last time and then back to the cabins to rest for a bit. As we were walking down to lunch we saw a fire truck up the road from the office and towards the woods, Suzanne told us that the police were up there and that us or the kids were not allowed to got near them, very strange indeed?? After lunch, us counsellors laid out in the sun and read our books while the kids ran around playing with each other.

As it was the last day we didn’t have activities but instead it was ‘Carnival Afternoon’ there was a snow cone machine, balloon animals and Nick dressed up as a fortune teller and was reading them their palms which was quite funny, “I can see you living in a really big, big, big …..caravan” or “ I can see you doing lots and lots of travel in your life time your going to be a …..taxi driver”. After dinner we had a special last campfire, where the parents came and we sang songs and gave out special awards and stuff. It was nice and then they all got little wooden boats that had a little tea light candle stuck on it and light them and set them out onto the swamp, but it was too windy and the candles didn’t light oh well. One of the girls that was a day camper for the whole 6 weeks – Hannah Boyd, her parents were there and they bought every one of the counsellors a ‘Guess’ charm bracelet, it was such a nice thing to do and was much appreciated. Joanne the cook told us that the reason the police were at the camp was that a man’s dead body was found in a car on camp grounds…. What the?? And too think we were out there by ourselves in the woods the night before when anything could have happen to us and all we had to alert anyone we were in danger was a messily plastic whistle!

I then took all 3 of my kid back to the cabin and we watched Harry Potter 5 on my computer, and as I predicted fell asleep quite nicely which was good because I was exhausted.Up early the next morning to the little munchkins ready for breakie and then home time!! So gradually the kids got picked up and we all said our goodbyes, it was sad to see them go and I really enjoyed camp, defiantly an experience but once is enough for me. So after the kids left we just had to clean up some bits and pieces around each of the activities but we had already done most of the work in the days before hand so we had everything done just after lunch and Suzanne had to then inspect everything that we had cleaned and once she was happy we just relaxed, had a little snooze, Suzanne then drove us into the bottle shop and we got our supplies for a pool party that we had been invited to by the bikies that Leigh had meet with last weekend, Donny one of the guys (who owns a motor bike dealership) had kept in contact with her and invited us all around. We got ready and call Borat and all 10 including him piled into the van and drove us out to a place called ‘Bridgewater’ about 30/40mins from camp.

We got there met them all and could you imagine more American names that Donny, Bobby and Randy?? Ha so funny there were a few others too. They had a nice house with a good deck and pool outside. So a few drinks later and some dancing and drinking games everyone was having fun. By about 12.30am me and kel had, had enough and we fell asleep on the lounge (yeah I know party poopers) by about 1.30am we were ready to go so we called Borat and only me Kel and Hol left everyone else stayed to party into the night.

The next morning we got up for breakfast and the girls still weren’t home but eventually turned up around 10ish. Suzanne then took us to the bank to get the second half of out pay check –sweet! Then back to bed, there was a function on at the camp that was associated with the school and they were having a BBQ so we were told to make ourselves scarce and that we had to get our own lunch and dinner – cheap skates! So feeling slightly worse for wear we hauled ourselves outta bed and called trusty ol’ Borat for the last time to take us to T.G.I Fridays, it’s the best restaurant and has fantastic service! Back to camp and pictures with Borat then onto packing, it took me all afternoon and night and there was still so much that wasn’t fitting in, oh the pain. I tried for an early night but it was still 12am before I got to sleep.

Up early on Monday as we were catching the 8.30am bus to Boston and for our last day it was raining great just what we needed while trekking with our packs and bags. Dropped at the station and Kel, Hol, Nick, Leigh, Verena and myself left for Boston, Ola & Kasia had to stay back and continue to clean and finish the kitchen. Marie decided to stay with ‘Kevin Bacon’ for a few nights after camp, which suited us just fine because she is undeniably the most strangest person I have ever met, and I have met some pretty strange people ( sicko’s, chicks with beards, houseo’s & she is still the strangest).

The train took about an hour and it was still very overcast and had the occasional spit but thank goodness that rain had eased. Out at the main terminal in Boston ‘South Station’ which is really nice, changed to the red line to ‘Park street’, changed at park to the green line to ‘North Eastern’ and then hopped off there. Boston’s rail system is really great, its easy to use and it costs $2 to get anywhere or $9 unlimited ticket for the day, and it is the oldest subway system in America (How do you like that trivia FOUB) We hopped of the train and walked and walked and walked we had to find # 12 Hemenway St. So it was either going to be really close or right at the other end of the street, and which do you think it was??? Of course all the way down the other end of the street, I think when we found Hemenway we started at #200 so we walked with all this luggage and crap down the street and to make matters worse the rain had completely gone and it been replaced with humidity ohh the sweat was really dripping at this point.

We finally made it and dropped our bags off but couldn’t yet check in as we were too early. We headed off to a little coffee shop around the corner and had the best coffee and home made bagel ever! We spent a good few hours there just relaxing then headed back and checked in. We of course had the top floor which meant we had to lug our big bags up 5 flights of stairs ohh geez.

We had all 6 of us in one room with 3 bunks so that was good and the shared bathroom was just down the hall, we had a little nap and headed out into Boston and back on the train and off to Harvard University, which is in the town called Cambridge. The actually uni was really really big and spread out and you could just walk around and have a look. So we had a squiz at some of the buildings, they were so old and beautiful. Had a look around at some of the shops and the Harvard coop shop that had everything you could think of with the Harvard label.

We then hopped back on the train and went to downtown Boston and ‘Quincy Market’ and ‘Fenuil Hall’ which is something famous in American history but now has a whole lot of shops and restaurants. We browsed around and then went to ‘Dicks last resort’ which is a restaurant were the waiters are rude to you and make fun of you, we had to wear silly paper hats but didn’t think it was really worth it as it wasn’t that funny. Caught the train back and Kel and Hol went back to the room and Verena, Nick, Leigh, Gimpy and I headed to an Irish pub ‘McGreevy’s’ for a ‘Magners’ cider – it was actually really nice. We watched some of the pre-season NFL games and decided that the New York Jets are our new favourite team! Gimpy even got a ride on pug dog! 1am latter we got back to the hostel and went to bed.

Next morning Kel left for New York to meet up with her family and went back to the coffee shop. Then back on the train into the centre of Boston (FOUB I think I’m giving you a run for your money with the amount of train trips I’m taking) for some more browsing the shops and half the group went and walked the rest of the freedom trail that we started last time. I opted for the window shopping option which was really nice just strolling around with no time limits or any real plan. We went into Macy’s and as we walked in there was a man on the floor with about 6 security gaurds on top of him while he was screaming “Help, Help I’m being assaulted, Help, Help” we walked passed and started talking to a shop assistant who said he had tried to steal something. More screaming from the crazy guy and we turned around and copped an eye full of his box and tackle! His pants had fallen down and were hanging around his ankles while security has trying to pull them back up and get him out of their. Later on in the day we all met up in the park and went and said hello to ‘Ash’ the guy that Leigh was selling sunglasses with last time we went to Boston. We took some pics and even gimpy got in on the action. Went to ‘Wendy’s’ for lunch and then back to the hostel.

No time for a nap we got ready and headed out to Fenway which is just a block or 2 away (the hostel is in such a great location def recommend it). The Red Sox were playing LA Angles, we went to a bar called ‘Bleecher Bar’ which is actually situated under the bleechers in the baseball stadium and one of the walls of the bar is actually a big mesh roller door that is on the baseball field. Its so cool you can watch the game from the bar right at eye level and so close and no ticket required! After the game and the Sox won we went across the road to the ‘Lansdown’ bar and had a few more drinks when 3 sailors in full dress uniform walked in “Hello Sailors……” we got talking to them and got some great pics, Verena and I then jumped up on stage while the band was packing up and got pics of us on the drums and guitar – so rock star!
Last call at the bar and we still wanted to party so we hailed a cab – but in the meantime some big guy who looked like a black version of Hagrid came up to us with a white hard hat and a bunch of signs saying “ninja’s killed my family need money for karate lessons to get revenge” another one that said “need money for beer so I can get drunk and find 2 women to take me home and molest me” so funny so we had to get a pic of course. The place we ended up at was right next door to ‘McGreevy’s’ and was called the ‘Pour House’. It was so funny because we were all pretty hungry as we hadn’t had dinner but at this bar we were getting free hotdogs –Awsome! I got talking to this big buff black guy that said he was a famous rapper/singer and his name was ‘Ray Diamondz’ haha I laughed and then all of a sudden he leaned & burst into this really loud love song “oh maybe he is a singer’ haha still very funny though. Walking back to the hostel the pizza shop round the corner was a def stop. Into the hostel at 4.30am and into bed.

To be continued………

Cheerio for now!

Gimpie's night of nights!

Geez I have so much to write I have be lazy this week and not wanting to write much so its now Sunday night and I have lots to comment on.

Back to last week, the days seem to go by quite fast but we didn’t have the trip in the middle of the week to break it up so it seemed to go forever! Thursday was pyjama day so we just rolled out of bed and went to work which was good and comfy, that afternoon we had the finale of the Olympics which was a big tug-a-war between blue and white team, blue won. Then it was the campers vs. us counsellors, we totally under estimated their strength, mind you there was 30 of them and 7 of us and much to our disappointment we lost.

Not to sure if I have mentioned it in other blogs but these past few weeks there have been lots of warnings about the increase in the number of mozzies in the area, which all carry these 3 deadly diseases that can kill you! So anyways the town has cancelled sports training in the afternoons and games and things like that and recommended that you stay indoors if possible during dusk and dawn and that if you do have to go outside you need bug spray on. Anyways at camp they have this game called underground railroad which is based on the slaves from the south trying to escape to freedom. As counsellors we have to stand/hide in the woods and wait while the kids come along and pretend to be the slaves and us as the bounty hunters have to question them and try to obstruct them from passing but then eventually let them pass and they continue onto the next counsellor. The game keeps getting delayed because now the mozzie problem the town has decided to fly planes over us and spray insecticide over everything from 8pm-3am. The game is meant to be at 8 when its dark and when the mozzies are at their worst!! So as you can imagine we don’t want to play the game at all and plus we have to stand in the woods by ourselves at night, I hate all the animals here let alone being out there with the bears and coyotes!! So thankfully the game has been cancelled due to a thunderstorm and the spraying, but it may have to do it later this week –boo!

Nun net is still not working so every night last week we headed to the mall and went to border’s to use their free wi-fi. We get there around 8ish and they close at 9.30pm so its not much time but we discovered that once they close if we sit on the seats just outside the shop we can still get the net. So we must look like the biggest scabs sitting in the middle of a closed mall using our computers haha its just that we have to book things for New York and trying to get everyone organised is hard. A big thanks to Carly for telling me about megabus we managed to pick up tickets from Boston to NYC for $5. I have also booked a ticket from NYC to Toronto Canada as I have to exit and get my visa restamped. 2 nights in Boston after we leave camp onto NYC from the 19th to the 22nd. Up to Canada on the overnight bus arriving on the 23rd staying until the 26th and catching the overnight bus back arriving in NYC on Friday the 27th. One of the girls, Leigh, will already be up there and we’ll meet up and do Niagara falls and then come back together and meet up with the other girls in New York and then hopefully catch a US Open tennis match.

So Friday finally rolled around and it was time to go to ‘Canobie Lake Park’ an amusement park in New Hampshire. It was a pathetic version of wonderland only much smaller. Hollie and I had asked for the older girls so we could go on all the scary rides with them but alas no scary, fast, exciting or upside down rides in sight. The closest thing we got to fun was a small dome shaped building with a concrete floor and a really old, old rusty looking ride that even the organisers of Fisher’s Ghost would de-commission and plus it smelt damp like fermenting water in a basement – whoo hoo!

So back to camp and straight back to Borders! Thank goodness the week is over! Up early Saturday and off to the hairdressers yes! It was really good to just sit and relax with no kids. The salon was huge and they have 11 or 12 stylists! The owner Michael was there and was camp ass a row of tents, belting out tunes like ‘Barbie Girl’ and ‘Lover is in the air’. He then ordered pizza for us all which was great! So by 1pm we were done and got good old Boratski to come get us and take us to Plymouth. Went to Cabby Shack for a bevy and lunch. It was so funny, just as we had sat down this guy came over and started talking to us, saying hello like he knew us?? I then clicked that he was one of Weston’s friends whose house we went back to the other week and Hol chundered all over his suede lounge haha. All the other girls had no idea who he was and when he left looking a little sheepish that we had no clue who he was I burst out laughing telling the girls who also thought it was quite amusing.

After lunch we decided we needed a kip before our big night out. So we walked up to the liquor store and bought some drinks for later I got 5 drinks for 7 bucks –bargain! So Borat again took us back with our contraband and we all napped. We decided we would not eat out as it would cheaper and we all chipped in with the left over food we had bought that week so for tea we had a few BBQ Pringles and some chips – remember eating is cheating! Our drinks went down quite nicely and by the time Borat came to pick us up we were all quite merry, of we went with our rubbish so we could dispose of our evidence.

All of us girls went out except for Marie, she meet up with the guy she met and stayed with last Saturday, they went to P-Town, his name is Kevin and we affectionately call him Kevin Bacon which we think is quite funny, not sure she gets it though! So we headed for ‘East Bay Grille’ but it was so packed and no where to sit or even stand at the bar, we then headed over the road to ‘Water Front Bar’. One of the girls Nicky has kept in contact with one of the guys, Nathan, we meet in Boston a few weeks ago who was from Bondi, anyway he is staying in Connecticut and drove up to see her which was nice so he joined us there. It was great they had DJ Skip or Skippy as we renamed him dishing out the tunes and there was lots of people and dancing. There was still lots of oldies but we finally found the younger people of this town!

The dancing was so fun and we had our team mascot with us. A few weeks ago I ditched the bead table during activities and headed down to the nuns and the sewing table and decided I would make myself something. I settled on a stuffed bunny, I cut him out of some nice looking fabric, sewed him up stuffed him and walla! I decided he would become a she as she looked quite hippy round the edges and one leg was shorter than the other so she became known as ‘Gimpie’. When Verena saw her she said she looked like she was made out of grandma curtains so she is now know as ‘Grandma Gimpie’. While we were out she was a hit, everyone wanted to get their picture taken with her and let’s just say she was put in some very compromising positions. She may or may not have some type of disease after last night.

A good time was had by all and then it was closing time. Waiting for Borat we came across a group of guys with Harley’s so on jumps Leigh with ‘Grandma Gimpie’, helmet on and some lovely glasses to match and off into the night they ride. We assumed it was just a ride around the block but 15 minutes later still no Leigh and she hadn’t answered her mobile. Borat had come and gone because we were still waiting for Leigh. We had met some guys while we were waiting and Hollie was on the war path at one of them because he worked for the British tobacco company and was therefore responsible for lung cancer. In the meantime I was, as ‘Sarah from Wales’ so affectionately calls it, ‘necking’ a guy called Lucas who thought my name was Lola! Still no Leigh, but it had now been an hour and we had finally got a hold of her and she was in a town called ‘Plimpton’ which is a 60min drive on the highway, but it was ok because Grandma Gimpie was safe and had survived the bike ride. As it turns out the guys had a boy mascot doll back at their place and Leigh said they had quite a bit of fun together and there is photo evidence to prove it!

As Borat had gone home to bed we ordered a different cab and in pulls this big fat American guy that had no neck in a 4wd jeep, not enough seats so Kel and I were delegated to the back of the car which had a huge piece of 2by4 which the guy said he used to hit people with??

Next morning, which was today, everyone was a little foggy after getting in at 2.50am. Leigh turned up at 4am, Marie turned up at 7.30am and Nicky made it back at 9.30am after sleeping in the parking lot in Nathan’s car. Good times good times. Nothing to do as the kids didn’t come back till after dinner so we just hung around feeling sorry for ourselves.

Hol and I moved back into the dorms today-fun, but as a bonus we don’t have to go on the last trip this week and get the day off. I hope there are no little hiccups like I had last weekend when one of the girls went to the toilet and was using her Nintendo DS and she some how managed to drop the little stylus stick you use to touch the screen with, down the toilet. Great so I gave her some gloves from the kitchen and told her she needed to fish it out. She tried but to no avail. So being dorm mummy it was up to me, I thought about just flushing the toilet but didn’t want the dam thing to clog up. So of course when I peered in it wasn’t a nice little number 1 but a giant number 2! So all gloved up I dove in and had a good dig around and still no stylus ohh well its not there …..flush…..no blockages good lets move on.

While writing this I am sitting on the lounge watching a bloody mouse run up and down the pipes and along the walls! Oh I hate this place so much I can’t fall to sleep at night cause I’m scared I’m going to be gnawed to death by a pack of revenge full mouses!

Not looking forward to this week to much its counsellor day and then camper day. We get to do what we want to the kids dress them up, cover them in silly string, make them be our slaves whatever we what but then the next day they can do whatever they want to us which sucks!

Well good night and cheerio x

No More Nun Net

Hi to everyone,

Its Wednesday night at the moment and its still so hot. Ill start back on Monday, Hollie and I are on day campers this week, which means that after brekkie we have to wait for the girls that only come to camp on a daily basis. We have to check them in and put their bags and stuff in the day camper room then head to flag raising and activities as normal. Then during rest hour we have to play with them and stay in the day camper room. The after swimming we have to make sure that they get changed and get ready to go which is a nightmare when you have 18 little girls ranging from 5 to 10yrs who are all taking their sweet time getting changed or “excuse me, excuse me I cant find my shirt” “I cant find my shoes” “whose got my socks”??? Ohh the pain!! But on the plus side we don’t have to do evening activity with the overnight campers, which mean we are off after dinner which is nice.

On Tuesday it was pirate’s day so we made our costumes from old white t-shirts and drew skulls and cross bones on them and I had drawn a treasure map on the back of mine and cut up the sleeves and the bottom of the shirt. We drew scars on and had bandanas and swords which was cool. Hollie looked very authentic with her new beard she had grown over night (brown eye liner comes in handy for beards) I think she suits a 5 o’clock shadow. We had a special pirate cake and they played pirate games in land sports and dived for treasure (rocks sprayed silver) in swimming and looked for sunken ships in boating, it was fun dressing up but not as good as Halloween.

Tuesday night Kel, Sarah, Ola, Hollie, Kasia and I headed to Plymouth as some of us had today off. So we went to ‘Waterfront bar and grill’ which was a restaurant and bar, it was ok had a cocktail which was terrible couldn’t even finish it. The drinks here seem to be so strong and all you can taste is the alcohol and not the mixer, so it feels like your throat is burning with every sip. We stayed for a few drinks but decided that the guitar player wasn’t much chop so we headed across the road to ‘East Bay bar and grille’ they didn’t have any music playing but the bar was busy – no talent though just the same old 60 & 80years!! Few drinks here and then onto ‘T-Bones’ which we were told was where the “younger” crowd is (we had been told this before but unfortunately their version of young is 35 +). So anyway by this stage it was about 11.45pm and bars close at 12.30 so we practically ran there.

Got in and yes the crowd was younger but not anything special and no one our age really, but on the flip side there was KARAOKE!! So we signed up had a few more drinks and waited our turn. “Next up we have Camp M Girls” Whoo hoo that’s our call so we got ready and belted out it was funny as we have 1 CD that we have been playing over and over again as its all we have back at the cabin and that song is on it and gets frequently replayed. Also Hollie is a massive glee fan and they apparently sing a version of it which is also on the CD. We thought we sounded great but someone recorded it for us on a camera and we sound like a bunch of cats on a hot tin roof!

More drinks and more dancing, Weston and 2 of his friends met us at the bar and partied for a bit. 12.30pm and it was time too go so we headed back to Weston’s friends house to continue the party. All was good until they pulled out joints and started smoking them?? Really, what is with this place I mean no young guys all oldies, every second man and his dog seems to smoke weed!! This place sucks, anyways in the meantime one of the girls, not naming names has this complete blank look on her face and is not responding to anything we ask….lets just say that a ordinary old Tuesday night with one 2 many wines can end up in bright pink projectile vomit!! Oh my god it was the funniest thing but we had to get her into the bathroom asap call Borat, who by the way knew exactly where we were when I told him the address???

So back in the taxi got dropped at camp, running back through the woods, past the nuns house, past death view and back into the safety of swamp view! Phew glad we made it all back in one piece even if some of us a bit worse for wear at about 2.30am!

So Wednesday morning I was up at the crack of dawn and ready for breakfast at 8 even though it was our day off some of us went down and had a bagel we then returned and went back to bed, feeling sorry for ourselves. We all finally resurfaced at 10/10.30 and decided we needed some hang over food so we got ready and called the cab company and arranged a pick up, as Borat is the one that usually comes and picks us up because he works at night, we thought we should go out and wait for the new day driver out the front of the camp so they would know where to go. So waiting, waiting, waiting for this cab when we ring them to ask where the cab is they tell us they are already there waiting? What….so we run back down to find Borat out the front of the office waiting for us, this guy must never sleep.

Dropped of out the front of T.G.I Fridays, a restaurant in ‘Colony Place’, we all got either steak or ribs. I got the ribs and they were great had so much left over I got it in a doggie bag for dinner that night (because I can tell you now after 5 weeks of eating frozen reheated food I will gladly have my lunch as left overs!) So after our delicious food hitting the spot we though we would take a look around the shops that they had which were nice and I’m sure if it wasn’t so hot and we hadn’t been out the night before we would have liked it a bit better. So last stop was Walmart and then Borat to the rescue once again.

Back at camp we all crashed out for a few hours until the kids and other counsellors came back from mini golf, thank god I didn’t have to go on that trip as the girls said it was absolutely horrendous, so hot with crying screaming kids because they were scared of the pirates! Went down to the swamp had a quick dip and then back home to go to bed.

Cheerio

Just a quick add on - its now Friday afternoon and I have hit the wall of so tired, haven’t slept well for the past 4 weeks waking up during the night not being able to go back to sleep, I think on Wednesday I had a total of 2 hours sleep! It also doesn’t help that im on the lounge and the house is so hot. So last night had my shower got ready for bed had a read on some NYC books and took 2 sleeping tablets put on my eye mask and away I drifted, I only woke up once which was great.

I think everyone is getting tired we are all snappy at the kids, being grouchy and having 8 girls in this small house is not working at all apart from the fact that we have 1 bathroom and when some one is in the shower you have to wait to use the toilet. Everyone’s stuff is everywhere, my ipod has gone missing, so yesterday I had a big clean up got all my crap together and then tidied the lounge but still no luck so fingers crossed that it will turn up somewhere.

Tonight is campfire night and all bar 3 of the day campers are sleeping over tonight and all the girls are off and Hollie and I are back in the dorms to cover for the weekend! Tomorrow is meant to be hot so we have to take the kids to the beach, which I have been told by the counsellors who went last week with the kids, has no shade, the smallest ‘beach area’ you have ever seen and half of it is pebbles, and 2 or 3 weeks ago it was closed due to high amount of bacteria in the water! Great way to spend Saturday and to top it all off we have to sit through Mass as well.

Ok so now its Monday and ill skip back to Saturday. Friday night we spent in the dorms with kids not to bad they went to bed around 11ish. Up early no sleep in and off to breakfast, all the other girls had left early for ‘Martha’s Vineyard’. We had 9 campers left and they all wanted to go to the mall but Suzanne said unless it was raining then we had to go to the beach. Got to the beach round 10.45am and it was dismal not only did you have to pay to get in, it was grey overcast and windy. We had our jumpers on and the kids just sat on the beach with their towels wrapped around them. ½ an hour later they were asking to go home! Then sun made a small appearance and 4 of the girls went in for a dip. The beach was pathetic nothing like ours, even Hol who lives in Blackpool England said she has better beaches at home and that is definitely saying something! Finally after putting the kids off we went up to the little kiosk asked to use their fone and called Suzanne to come pick us up at 2pm.

Back at camp it was time for mass, Hol and I were getting the girls readying praying (LOL) that we didn’t have to go, Suzanne - “oh no girls your fine you don’t have to come”. Phew sweet ½ hour off to snooze in the sun. The girls came back and we hung out with them till dinner, then a movie for the girls and Skype time for me. It was nice seeing everyone and catching up on everything it’s been ages. I’m glad it was pixel-lated cause there were quite a few tears I must say.

Sunday the girls got back and I was meant to have a sleep in, in the dorms as breaky wasn’t till 9.30am. Every day the campers are hard to get up its like 7.45am and they are still sleeping so I thought yay sleep in ill get them up at 9.15am and we’ll head down………..not likely they were up at the bloody crack of dawn 7.30 I could hear them jumping and screaming about so ‘Girls get back into bed its not even 8 o’clock yet your meant to be sleeping in, lie down and go back to sleep….NOT HAPPY JAN”!!! Then Suzanne comes in and gives 2 of them packages they got sent – great they are now all up eating the lollies they got and being very very noisy, oh get me outta here!

During breakfast some guy wanders down into the pavilion and Suzanne jumps up and goes over to him and he says we was after Sarah from Wales as she left her watch at the bar last night and he wanted to return it. Oh shit Suzanne was so pissed she called a meeting straight away and we all got told off for telling people where the camp was especially ‘strange men’ she was not happy at all and we got all our privileges taken away……which was getting to use the old bomy camp car once a week to go to walmart (which just started last week) Bugger hay, then she called me and Hol in and apologised to us as she said she knows we weren’t there and that it wasn’t directed at us which was nice.

We asked the girls later what happened and they said that Martha’s Vineyard was nice and then they went to the pub on the island caught the ferry back to the cape and hit up Borat for a ride back into Plymouth. Partied in Plymouth and had a good time then Marie the Swedish girl disappeared with some guy and wasn’t to be seen again that night, she later turned up at 8am the next morning at the staff cabin. Anyways the girls meet some guys and went back to their place and one thing lead to another and they were all in a hot tub! Dam me and Hol missed out on a good night out!!

Sunday nothing really happened just hung around. This morning (Monday) got up early to Skype Ash which I was so looking forward to and the bloody nun net isn’t working!! Such a shame not sure when it will be back up and working hopefully soon as we were going to book NYC tickets and hostel today too. We think it may have been disconnected as part of our punishment but not really sure. Going to the mall tonight check it out and have some time out maybe a movie.

Cheerio

So now it’s Tuesday night and we still have no nun net available! And this blog is getting longer and longer. Yesterday Sarah (from Wales) got some terrible news that her father is quite unwell and she had to make the awful decision to stay at camp or go home. She eventually made the decision to go home which was so sad for us but right for her. Later that night Hollie, Ola and I went to the mall and the rest of the girls meet us there a bit later we decided to skip the movie we had planned on watching and headed to Plymouth to have a our last drinks with Sarah. It was nice and I think she enjoyed her wine. Then old mate Borat picked us up, quick detour through macca’s and then onto Wal-Mart. This time Borat got out and did some of his shopping with us! Then back home to ‘Swamp View’.

Getting ready for bed we hear Sarah shrieking from the bathroom ‘RAT, RAT’ AARRGGHHHH Hol, Verena and I jumped up on the bunks screaming to kill it. Sarah runs out, we don’t move off the beds and brave Kel and Ola jump in the bathroom to try and catch the little critter (which it turns out is a mouse). In the meantime I’m busting for a wee and I am definitely not using the rodent infested joke of a toilet. More screaming from us as we hear the 2 brave mouse catchers jumping around in the bathroom. Kelly was so funny – like the mouse whisperer haha she was talking to him saying “its ok little mousey were not going to hurt you just come on out and well put you outside”. Bloody thing’s lucky it wasn’t me or I’d have tried to kill it before I’d be trying for a catch and release! Good thing I was scared and trying to cling onto the bunk bed praying it wasn’t going to come into our room!

Finially the girls said they couldn’t catch him and gave up. Hollie decided she couldn’t hold it in any longer and went to the toilet. Just as she was hoping off the dam thing ran out across the floor. Next thing you know more screaming Hol dashes out of the bathroom jumped back onto the bunk bed and we send Kel and ola back in to finish of the job properly. They were good at their job with the rubber gloves on it was time to catch the little B. Finially after much coaxing from Kelly, Ola nabbed him and swiftly ran out onto the porch and launched him into the back into the bush where he belongs. Oh what a night I was glad to get into bed but felt on edge all night that the little mousey wasn’t going to come back for revenge.

Today it was all finalised and she packed her bag and got ready to go. We were all so sad we put together a little package for her from all of us, a card, polish flag, koala and kangaroo, bracelet, tiny bottle of vodka!!, a camp t-shirt we all signed, some panadol’s and some sleeping tablets. We all were very teary and upset. Its like Kel said it doesn’t feel like we have only known each other for 6 weeks, its like big brother I have decided. We are all living in each others pockets 24/7 and all your feelings and emotions are magnified – so strange. So Kate, now my very own Stacey has left the building, but I have vowed to go visit her in Swansea-Wales when I head to the UK later this year which I am very excited about! Sarah hope you make it home safely and everything turns out for the best xox.

Today at camp we had the Olympics where the camp is split in half and they complete in their lessons and then at the end of the week the scores are tallied up and we have a big afternoon of races and silly games – the kids seem to like it . We have also had to change the day of the trip this week as it is meant to be raining on Wednesday so its now Friday. Everyone is going on the trip so we all have Saturday off and some of us have booked into the hairdresser’s which is getting me through this week I think. I am so looking forward to it and cant wait to have a nice head massage and relax for a few hours, we have already scoped the place out (one of the ladies who I work with in arts and crafts is really nice and funky –Sue, she gets her hair done there and recommended it to us) and for lunch we think we will head to the pub. Its in a small town called ‘Hanover’ about 25mins away so we will need to book Borat.

Tonight we all gathered round and watched ‘Couples Retreat’ on my lap top, it was a bit squishy but I liked the movie. Then off to bed thank god no mice sightings as yet.Fingers crossed no more will be seen.

Cheerio for now xox
