Set up

Today up at 7.30am for a run!! Well I ran 500m then walked than ran then walked ha-ha but more tomorrow!! Our running club is ROR (run of ranch) every meal we have ranch dressing and everyone loves it...... been through a litre in 2days! So that really needs to come off.

Didn’t get much sleep last night, we had a little visitor running up down on the shelf above our beds or in the roof – not to sure what it was but it keep us awake that’s for sure.

Just split into our groups today and worked on what we have and if we need anything. There are so many beads and stuff here so it should be good creating stuff with the kids. We have trips every Wednesday and next week when camp starts we are going to the zoo so that should be fun! Good news not sure if i mentioned it in the last blog but we have been allowed to go out on Saturday night - whoo hoo, like Nicky said we haven’t even seen any kids yet and were already planning our nights out! Not to worry Portia & Cheryl “Foxy Roxy” won’t be making an appearance (I need to keep my job!)

We also have camp fire Fridays when we have a BBQ and s'mores. Then there are special days we have like pirates day and Halloween and we need to make a costume so if anyone has any ideas throw em out there!! We have white sheets to use, make or sew with. And no, Sussex crew, I’m not going as what I went as to the last dress up party....it has to be scary!

That’s all that’s really been happening today, just working out if we need anything and then sun baking in our breaks!

Our address here is Camp Mishannock - 260 Bishops Highway, Kingston MA. 02364 U.S.A. sooo.....care packages anyone!!!

To all the Cape York crew I hope you all have a wonderfully fun and exciting trip keep safe and stay away from Nolan’s Crossing........ that means you Brighty & Randall! Enjoy the warm QLD weather – buy me something good!

Writing this it’s funny we were all dying to get on the net and we all logged onto facebook asap and now no one is speaking and all you can hear is the banging of keys on the key board and its only been 3 days.

Haven’t taken any pics of the camp or the girls yet but when I do, I will be sure to put them up!

Love you all loads

p.s. no Skype yet, I could try to get wifi nears the Nun’s house but have yet to try, will let you know if I can get it.

Camp Day 1

Firstly Happy birthday to Asef the big 30 hope you had a nice day and i'm betting Mrs Haddad made you a delicious birthday cake!

So today up at 9am for 930 breakfast then free time till 11am. Meeting with Suzanne about the running of camp and what to expect etc. Lunch at 1230, more free time. We went for more of an explore and found the basketball courts and tennis courts, meet the 3 maintenance boys that are working here - seem nice and mentioned that because this Sunday is the 4th of July then on Saturday the 3rd everyone parties then another meeting at 230 then a quick tour of Kingston which has 2 big malls and then to Plymouth the town where the pilgrims landed on the Mayflower. Its really nice a little town by the seashore has lots of boats, jetty, big mariner, seafood restaurants and what appears to be a pretty happening bar right by the water - Let the planning begin!!!!

Seeing as though the kids don’t arrive till Sunday after 1pm we have tried asking Suzanne if we have everything done and ready for the kids if we can have Saturday night off? At this stage it’s just the afternoon but she said she will speak to the boys and see what’s happening in the town Saturday night so fingers crossed!!!
Back home and time for tea chicken breast, salad, beans and potatoes. Then off to wall*mart to do some shopping, everyone got loads of stuff - toiletries and whatever, could have spent ages looking around but then back to camp and time for bed. The showers here are pretty horrendous, tiny with dodgy shower curtains and the loo's are all so low to the ground with doors that end just at your knees and come up to your neck! All pretty funny but part of the experience! (wonder if I’ll have the same opinion in 6 wks time?)

We have all decided that we'll start running/walking in the morning to try and keep fit which is a good idea so we start tomorrow. Don’t have Wi-Fi here but twice a week we can go across to the school (also owed by the nuns) and use the internet so the blogs won’t be coming as thick and fast as they have been. But I’ll try and get them done, we only have 15 kids coming this week and only 9 or so staying overnight but the days sound very full and possibly exhausting!
Well glad to finally be here and get things moving, should be interesting to see what happens when the kids arrive!

Cherrio for now

Boston

Hi everyone not sure how often I can put these up but I’ll be writing them as often as I can and then just be putting them all up together.
4am start yesterday, up early to catch the plane to Boston. Nancy got up and drove me which was really nice said goodbye and checked in. Travelling by myself they always seem to ask if i want the emergency exit seat which is cool-lots of leg room but the whole plane is up the creek if there is a real emergency! I was sitting on the window which was good but, 'Sam sparrow' look alike was next to me and he smelt kind funky, like he hadn't had a good bath for a while, lucky the flight wasn’t too long 2 1/2 hours. So I have left the land of '10,000 lakes' and arrived in sunny Boston, Massachusetts.
Off the plane and waiting to my bag, right got the bag and up with the pack, msging Kelly to try and find her and the bus that we needed to catch. I'm in with the united airlines not sure what terminal. Kelly: Ok I’m at the bus stop in terminal B. Right had to ask the info desk where the P&B (Plymouth & Brockton) bus picks up from "right out there honey" says an old lady who sounds like 'Boston rob' from survivor. Right out i tot with the pack and my 2 other bags to balance me out. Looking around no Kelly and no B&P bus sign, ok back into the terminal when I spied a sign 'you are in terminal C' great wrong terminal! "Come on pack we gotta get moving!"
Following the signs heading to terminal B, walking walking walking right I can see a terminal up ahead, this should be it........."you are now in terminal A" @#$%*!!! Why arent they in alphabetical order??? Walking walking walking walking finally on the horizon hahaha I see terminal C, YES! Out the doors and right there is Kelly waiting with her bags - boy was i glad to see her! Literally 1 minute later the bus pulls up, on we jump heading to Plymouth, which is the town nearest to Kingston (where the camp is situated). An hour or so later we arrived at a big car parking lot by the freeway with a macca's. So sitting in the aircon was nice, it’s really hot here about 90 and so very humid, which is apparently not usual for this area.
Suzanne the camp director came to get us in a big white school van, she is really nice - which is a relief! Kesia from Poland arrived the day before and came with Suzanne. Then off to the Kingston train station to pick up Leigh, who is from, of all places - Ulladulla! (FOU no time to jump out to take a pic and plus no train lol) Driving back to camp the area is real forestry. There is a lake by the camp and the cabins look like something out of parent trap, brown with green rooves. All 10 of the counselors are staying in the one lower dorm for the 1st week for 'bonding'. Looking around the dorm we have stepped back in time to the 1970's!!! Small old spring beds line the two opposite walls, we make up the beds with these old sheets that are from the 60's (moving into the future!) We went for a walk around camp its small but cute, lots of rabbits, chipmunks and squirrels running around. Didn’t have anything to do so it was nice just looking around.
So over the next few hours all the girls started to to arrive Ola from Poland, Sarah from Wales (i love her accent, could listen to it all day!) Veerena from Germany, Hollie from England, Nicky from Melbourne and poor Marie from Sweden who had been travelling for 40hrs without sleep! Everyone is really nice and getting on well lots of laughs and giggles. Went down to the lake which we have nicknamed the 'swap' due to the smell and lillypad / algae looking stuff. They have a sign saying they test the water regularly and that its safe so I guess we'll see when we all have to lifeguard!!
All our meals are prepared by Joanne and they are delicious, feels like home cooked stuff. We had pasta, meatballs and salad. Then off to bed - we were all in bed by 8pm and it was still light mostly everyone went to sleep but the ozzies and Nzer stayed up chatting about the camp and what to except today.
Speak soon

Thankyou Ba

Hey guys,

So Miss Emma Ba has inspired me to create this blog page which wasnt too hard seeing as though I have actually worked it out! So now everyone can check this out instead of logging onto facebook, and yes I know FOU you have modernisied and are now on facebook but now you can be a 'blog' follower! And plus now ol' G-dad can keep up with me too!

So as you all know im still in Minneapolis, Minnesota and had a sleep in today - nice. Got up and headed out to the mega "Mall of America". Its in Minneapolis and is the biggest shopping mall in America with over 400 shops, an under water world, nickelodeon universe and lego land all inside the mall. It was really nice very big like parramatta westfields. Got there around 1ish and had a look around couldnt really buy anything wont fit in the dam pack!!! haha Around 3pm Faye was getting tired so we headed off back home.

Still quite humid here but overcast. Nancy has a lill veggie garden and she grows shallots, radish, peppers, tomatoes and Kohlrabi, its a vegetable
that you can cook but you can also eat it raw with a sprinkle of salt. The texture reminded me of a cross between a potatoe and an apple. Its light green on the outside and white inside. We also had these tiny pretzel squares that had peanut butter in them which gave me a laugh, after me telling them all that they are peanut butter obsessed!

Had so dinner and then re packed my pack - i'll have this down to a fine art before too long! And I was finally able to get skype up and running yesterday so I talked to mum & dad and the crew, Then spoke to Ash, Af & Kerri which was great. Ive been in touch to with Kelly, who is from NZ and is going to the same camp, were going to meet tomorrow and catch the bus to camp. I leave at 7am and fly to Boston, Massachusetts. Then we will catch a bus to Plymouth/ Kingston which is where the camp is. If you want to google earth it look up Camp Mishannock and you can get an ariel view. Looking forward to it and cant wait to start the new adventure.

Had to say goodbye to Faye and the family tonight, they have been great, I really appreciate everything they have done and shown me. It was been wonderful to be able to get an insight into the lives of a terrific loving family. So thanks to all the Kuhlmanns THANKS a buch you guys have been great and i'm looking forward to seeing some of you 'down under' in the near future.

Speak to you from Boston next
